Introduction

While treating pregnant women, it is very important for OB-GYNs to have access to their patients' obstetric history, family history, marital history, investigation reports and other relevant patient information to give efficient prenatal care. It helps the doctor to categorize the patients as low or high-risk pregnancies and provide suitable treatment plans. In many hospitals and clinics, patient information is collected and handed over to the patient for future reference during doctor consultations.

Doctors face challenges in many situations like the following,

  1. Patients forgetting to carry the physical record

  2. In cases of emergency

  3. Remote Consultation

  4. Loss of Investigation reports

Under these circumstances, the doctor does not have access to the needed information directly at their disposal. This makes it difficult for them to recollect, recall, analyse, and impart treatment specific to a patient's needs. They have to continue treatment purely based on verbal communication with the patient and the current condition of the patient which in most contexts is insufficient for the doctor to make the best treatment plans. This results in memory overload for the doctors, leading to errors and delays in treatment progress.

Providing doctors with uninterrupted and complete access to their patients' information to peruse at any time, is the main aim. This is made possible by making relevant information available digitally at all times which in turn also reduces the doctor’s dependency on patient’s bringing in their physical records for making treatment related decisions.

Problem Statement

To put it simply, we frame this problem as a

How Might We statement

Doctors are extremely busy professionals and it is challenging to get their attention unless they see convincing value in a solution that requires significant modification to their existing means of data capture during treatments and appointments.

While the main purpose of competitor solutions that hospitals currently use are to help doctors create and maintain patient information, these solutions are typically complex to use and involve too much data entry which proves to be a time consuming and tedious exercise, keeping doctors away from their main task- focusing on the patient and her health.

When reviewing the usability and context of use of mobile apps in this particular domain it was ascertained that smaller screen sizes are not suitable to view multiple pieces of medical information together. In addition to this, several in-house digital patient record management systems are not accessible outside the hospital and so provide only limited access to the doctor.

How might we create a digital system to help doctors ease their consulting experience by displaying, organizing and prioritizing relevant information while treating pregnant women?

Visual Design

Our selection of font and color for the logo was done with the intention to convey feminity and elegance. The typography for the entire application was aimed at giving more readability for the doctors. Relevant iconography was also used as an aid for visual comprehension along with supporting text. The objective was to help doctors and support staff use the system easily with minimal training.
